How to Prevent Heart Disease

Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death in America. It accounts for approximately 34 percent of deaths.

Making lifestyle changes as early as possible is necessary in preventing heart disease. We all know that lack of exercise, an unhealthy diet and other unhealthy habits can be dangerous. In order to keep your heart healthy, you must do something today!

  1. Watch what you eat!

A healthy and balanced diet is necessary in keeping your overall health and wellness. Choose your fruits and vegetables over junk foods!

  1. Watch your sugar intake

Your risk to developing a heart disease is higher if you have diabetes.

  1. Don’t smoke or expose yourself to second-hand smoke.

Avoid smoking as it increases the risks of heart and lung diseases.

  1. Maintain a healthy blood pressure.

Hypertension is a silent killer. Always monitor your BP levels and work to maintain a normal range for a healthy heart.

  1. Monitor your cholesterol

Abnormal or high blood lipids or fats are a major contributor to a heart disease. Ensure that you have normal cholesterol levels.

  1. Exercise and avoid sedentary lifestyle

The lack of exercise can lead to obesity. Perform exercise to burn calories and maintain  a healthy weight.

  1. Reduce stress

Avoid stress. It contributes to cardiovascular disease and, if severe, can cause a heart attack or sudden death.
