Flu is a virus that can cause mild to severe illness. Symptoms may vary from having fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, chills, headache and fatigue. While flu can easily be treated, sometimes it can be harmful.

It is especially dangerous for older adults and people with chronic diseases. It often leads to hospitalization, and it can sometimes be fatal. The good thing is that this condition is easy to prevent. For your senior members, we recommend the following:

  1. Get a flu vaccine
  • A flu vaccine reduces the risk of catching the flu virus.
  1. Drink plenty of water
  • Staying hydrated can help you fight off the flu. Drinking plenty of water helps the nasal passages stay moist and trap germs before they can spread into the body.
  1. Eat healthy, get proper sleep and exercise regularly
  • Fuel your body with the right and proper amount of nutrients. Have enough sleep and maintain a regular exercise to help your strengthen your immune system.
  1. Always clean your environment
  • By cleaning your environment, you also clean the breeding ground for germs that may cause illnesses.
  1. Always apply proper hygiene like washing of hands
  • Generally speaking, a good hygiene can keep you from common sicknesses. Always wash your hands with soap and water, and use hand sanitizer to kill cold and flu germs.
  1. Stay away from people who are sick
  • You can protect yourself by staying far away from people who have the flu virus.
  1. Stay away from crowded areas or wear mask when you are in a public place
